The game starts just as we know it from the real Colors direct into a level but at the end of act 2 will we than fight a classic boss and after he beat it the big surprise all of this was just a attraction in Eggman's new interstellar amusement park that Sonic was just testing because he Tails and Many others were invited to Eggman's new amusement park to convince them self that this is a honest attempt of redeeming him self and while Every one distrusted the situation at first does after the finish of the rest of the attractions (Levels) of Tropical resort Tails admit that it looks like Eggman means it which him genuinely hopping that Eggman truly did turn good be it just so that he can have some one to have conservation which over machines something sonic really can't do (and this is also setting up tails massiv distrust in Lost worlds were he is overly paranoid because he nearly falls for Eggman in this adventure). But this is were Sonic and Tails meet yacker a wisp that managed to escape Eggman and because he manged to get to sonic and Tails can't eggman just recapture it just yet because he doesn't want to reveal his true plan already.(Here a side suggestion would be to have actual hub world where some older Characters make cameos like Professor Pickls, Mighty or perhaps even Elise and this hub worlds one for each planet will become important latter) Than right during the first act of Sweet mounten does Yacker lead Sonic of course and so he runs into the factories behind the new theme part collides where now new Robots (the levels up until now had exclusively older robots and when you died didn't it reduce your live counter because up until now was all just a fun little theme part attraction) and see many weapons in being build and at the end of the level does sonic break the first wisp container unlocking the Laser wisp that were captured there and its here where sonic Realize what really is happening (tails isn't with them because only Sonic was in the level tails tries to decode the language of Yacker to be able to communicate with him) after this does sonic not go back to tails but rather wants to resolve this situation here immediately where he than absorbed a laser wisp and gets shot right into the next level sonic continues until he reached the first generator and thanks to Eggmans easy to handle controls (like seriously Sonic could ride the Egg mobile like it was nothing) does Sonic shut the machine down before he destroys the control panel after sonic returns does he see that tails isn't there anymore and he things that he probably didn't want to wait for him and is already on the next big section of the Theme park the starlight carnival. Eggman Seeing it all from his control center admirers how much faster sonic figured out the basics of his plan faster then he expected but that says it doesn't matter and that now the game just truly starts and that he has a very spezial surprise ready for sonic. Now when Sonic reaches starlight carnival does it at first look not like anything to dangerous (but if we go with my hub world Idea will the amount of people on them be reduces by now by at least the half) but ones we enter the level (and each ships normal interior should be something spezial like one ship is full with casino level gimmicks and the next one is filled with party equipment with balloons and the like and another one with a restaurateur) the places behind the scenery will we see that this ships are all fully usable war ships disguise as theme part attractions one again does Sonic ones he open the wisp container release a new wisp type (I am here all about story so I wouldn't say when we should unlock which wisp) but at the end of the zone and after sonic beat the boss and shut down the generator is he now genuinely worried because now are there even less people on the hubs (if we go with this Idea) and Tails is nowhere to be found and Sonic still doesn't know what eggman actually needs the aliens for and he still can't talk to them. Next up is planet wisp and Sonic does immediately see one his wisp buddy reaction that this is or at least use to be there home which is now already half corrupted by Eggman under the pretense to be the parks main generator surrounded by a gorgeous landscape. So at first does everything run just as usual until you reach the boss because this time its not just a Robot but actually has a control center and after it looks like Sonic beat the boss does something terrible happen it the Ruins of the Boss stands Tails in a Eggman outfit and than suddenly does a giant Eggman Hologram appear. Eggman:"Hohohoho if this isn't sonic long time not seen. As you can already see did while you where busy shutting down my first generator was I able to kidnap you little friend and it was very easy actually he was so trusting that he fallowed one of the packs robots right into a chamber where I put him to sleep and than could use him just as all the other visitors of the park as a gimme pig for my newest devise by using this aliens spezial energy in a slightly altered version can I mind control other people and as you can see on your EX-friend was my experiment a full successes so have fun fighting Tails sonic that is if you dare to do so" After this and some dialog from Sonic do we have a Tails Boss fight but after a few hits is tails still standing to sonic's surprise and suddenly does Eggman cut in again he explains that thanks to Tails body being filled with this very potent energy will he never just collapse he will always stand up again unless Sonic would actually Kill tails. Sonic more than unwilling to actually kill Tails seams to be in a really bad situation and he lets the brainwashed tails beat at him for a while until Yacker has enough and flies right into Tails and when he emerges from Tails again obviously in pain does tails slowly get back to his senses because the negative Wisp energy was taken away from him by Yacker and so saved him as Tails would with some science and lots of regret for trusting Eggman explain one cut scene latter after Sonic and Tails hug and move one to finish Eggman while we than see a really pissed off Eggman not only did he lost tails and sonic is still alive no there also now know a way how to break his mind control something even he didn't know the wisp could do. Now aquarium park is just filler and only thing worth mentioning would be some space for Tails and Sonic to have some nice conservation with each other and that by this point the parks hubs are empty (again when we go with hubs). And finally for asteroid coaster have we some more generic levels until reaching of the wisp energy drain chamber where tails find out that all the other generators only are giant badnicks that drained planets(except for Starlight Carnival of cause which was just a decoy) there were one to give this whole theme park its energy and this place is where Eggman drains and twisted the energy from the wisp but it gets worse now with Tails Translator finally working does one of the wisp that actually heard Eggman talk about his master place explain what he wants with all there power namely uses in combination of a giant energy canon on the main part of the mark to brain wash every one on the planet and so take over the world.
So and now does Tails form there Final plan Yacker get send out to get all wisp (which are very thankful for there rescue and want to give Eggman a payback anyway) together so that there can neutralize the energy of the Canon while Sonic is going to a confrontation with Eggman to ether stall of even prevent the canons activation in its entirety while Tails is hacking into the security system so that the wisp can easily reach the negative energy. But this final level is going to be hard because the enemies aren't anymore just Robots but also brainwashed people that will stand up again over and over again and finally during the final Boss fight against Eggman was the whole thing damaged and Tails informs you that everything is about to collapse which given the amount of stored energy could destroy there entire star system if not worse but while everything seams to be over does the fight between Sonic and Eggman keep going while tails tries his best to stall the explosion hopefully until all the wisp can arrive and during sonic's fight does Eggmans just like in the Real colors uses Wisp powers but ones Sonic freed one of each does he with the help of them not only beat Eggman's mech but also by dashing into the explosion break enough of the negative energy to not explode but just release in which form the wisp can neutralize them and save the day.
